Once Iâd given Alex time to walk away, I opened the door and stepped into the dark hallway. I took deep, steadying breaths.
Being at a play party with Alex was harder than Iâd expected it to be. The awareness of him as I watched everyone around us giving in to their desires was excruciating. I wanted to know what he was thinking about each scene, to whisper in his ear when something turned me on, and laugh with him at how absurd human sexuality could be. It was like I was initiating him into my world, but I was selling him short because all he could do was watch.
Iâd dragged him outside to get some air when Iâd been about ready to implode from wanting him, only to run into Reaper.
Reaper had broken my heart and it had taken me years to put the pieces back together. He was the first and only dom Iâd ever truly submitted to and Iâd been in love with him when heâd pushed me away and gone down a self-destructive spiral. Iâd been left questioning my worth. I never wanted to have my sense of self on the table again for someone to casually strip away.
Standing up there spinning fire poi, Reaper had looked almost primordial, like something out of a Bacchanalian rite. Then heâd spotted me and winked, a move that wouldâve made me weak at the knees once upon a time, but I was mostly immune to his charm now. Goddess save me from charming men.
âYou brought your new boyfriend to a party at my house? Dirty teaseâ¦â
The low voice that came from the darkness to my left sent shivers down my spine, proving I wasnât as immune to Reaperâs charm as I liked to think I was.
I hadnât heard him approach and refused to turn and look at him. âYou think everything is about you. It isnât.â
He chuckled. âDid you bring him to make me jealous or do you plan to share?â
âFuck off, Reaper.â I started to walk the other direction down the hall.
He was on me in what felt like seconds. He spun me by the wrist to face him and pinned me against his body.
In a flash, every old instinct rose to the surface, to be obedient, to submit, to serve him.
He cupped my chin possessively, smiling because he knew. âHe canât make you feel the way I do.â
He leaned in to kiss me.
Iâd waited years for this from him, for him to want me back badly enough to fight for it. But I didnât want it anymore.
âSasquatch.â
His eyes widened, but he immediately released me.
It was the first time Iâd ever used a safe word with him. I didnât want to talk or tease or play. I was done with these head games.
I found Alex just down the hall.
He held his hands up innocently. âI didnât know where to go and thought I would get myself into more trouble guessing than just waiting for you.â
I couldnât see most of his expression because of the mask, but his eyes were assessing and intense.
